The Shock of AI Impact and How to Absorb It

We are living in an age where artificial intelligence is colliding with everything humans have built over modern history, including cybersecurity. In this talk, we take a closer look at how how blind trust and a focus on deployment efficiency create a new attack surface ripe for exploitation by threat actors. We also put a lid on the overhyped debate about the threat landscape with real-world data showing that generative AI still mostly powers scams, fraud, phishing, and disinformation campaigns instead of the novel attack techniques or breakthrough malware many predicted. Based on concrete examples from our research and development and hard lessons learned, we will show attendees why only an AI philosophy based on experimentation, rigorous testing, and human expertise can steer us away from doomer scenarios and ensure that the technology delivers net-positive results.

Juraj Janosik Bio

Juraj Jánošík is director of Artificial Intelligence at ESET. He joined ESET in 2008 as a malware analyst and currently leads the Automated Detection and Artificial Intelligence program responsible for applied research and incorporation of AI and ML into our products, as well as backend pipelines with a high level of complexity, including data lakes, telemetry systems, and autonomous detection systems design. He was a member of several international working groups focused on botnet eradication (e.g., Dorkbot, Gamarue, 3ve), and presented at several international private and public conferences including RSA, MWC, CARO and NATO events. In his free time, he’s a dedicated dad and husband passionate about science, as well as fresh snow, mountain peaks, and great views.

Filip Mazan Bio

Filip Mazán is the senior manager of Advanced Threat Detection & AI Research at ESET, where he leads teams focused on leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning for automated threat detection and cyberthreat hunting. Since joining ESET in 2013 as a malware analyst, Filip has advanced into a software engineering role and now oversees research projects utilizing deep learning and GenAI to enhance global cybersecurity efforts. His expertise includes dismantling major botnets like Dorkbot and Gamarue and speaking at industry-leading events, such as the RSA Conference.
